This traversing beam has been designed to sit on top of an existing galvanised metal handrail. Its diagonal orientation takes the shortest route across a cranked section of the handrail and the triangular cross section provides an inherent stiffness to help resist bending and torsional forces. The laser cut ‘comb’ profiled sections are locked together at regular intervals with timber pegs and cross sectional plates. Two of the plates extend down to form supports that the beam spans between and cantilevers from at each end, resulting in optimised structural bending moments.
