This trio of traversing beams cantilever from steel bollards and align towards the centre of a cylindrical gas container that they surround. The beams are of composite construction, with the flanges fabricated from laminated layered cardboard sections and the web from plywood. The beams taper down from where the bending action is greatest at the bollard ends towards the tips, and the webs are perforated to reduce weight, minimise wind loading and to reduce the visual mass. The beams stop short of the adjacent cylinder so that they act as cantilevers, with the turning effect at the bollard supports resisted by means of two plywood rings separated by a distance that are over-sized compared to the bollards. This allows for rotation to occur when the structure is placed in position, which locks the rings on to the bollards and generates friction forces between the bollards and the rings.
