This traversing structure spans between an opposing window cill and a sloping handrail, the centre line of the span aligns with the only location where the two are at the same level, and the level top line of the structure acts to highlight the various angles and slopes of the surrounding site. The structure comprises two components. The first is a triangulated braced timber frame designed to provide lateral stability, resting in two places on the window cill to resist rotation, and on the ramp below to take vertical load. The second is a simply supported aluminium tube that spans between the timber component and the handrail. The tube is designed to efficiently span the required distance and resist the bending action due to its own self weight.
